Measuring Toddlers Feet

By Toddler Boy Clothing

Toddler feet are such delicate and malleable little things, that getting the right fitting shoes for them is very important.

Babies’ feet don’t have bones‚ just soft cartilage which can easily be pushed out of shape by badly fitting shoes. Even socks that are too tight can damage their feet at this delicate stage.

A foot has 26 bones, 19 muscles and over 100 ligaments‚ which can take up to eighteen years to harden to adult form. But even before they start walking‚ babies’ feet need protection and support‚ and at each stage of their development‚ they have different needs.

Great advice on fitting baby and toddler shoes

You can of course take you toddler to get his feet measured, shoe shops like Clarks offer this instore service free of charge, but you can also measure your own children's feet at home.  With Startrites free downloadable measuring gauge it really is a lot easier than you might think.

Toddlers Clothes Help With Independance

'No, me do it!' Is a phrase I hear often in my house with two toddlers and as much as I can I try to allow them to.  Why?  Because allowing them to do things for themselves is a great way not only for them to learn stuff, right and wrong ways of doing things and working out problems, but it also helps foster that important independence and self esteem.

Clothing can be a big part of this.

if she wants to choose her own clothes, make peace with crazy color combos (but do stand your ground when it comes to flip-flops in February or party dresses at the park). Help her succeed by buying items that are easy for her to put on herself (elastic waist versus button-fly jeans; Velcro-closing sneakers versus lace-ups).

Letting children dress themselves is a great way for them to develop confidence and self esteem but in order to help with this you need to be careful which clothes you buy.  Go for clothes with easy fastenings, elasticated waists and holes large enough to easily get their heads through.  With shoes buy velcro, slip ons or zips instead of laces and with coats a simple zipper is much easier for little fingers than lots of buttons.

Of course, having them learn how to take their own clothes off does come with its own problems

Go Organic For Your Toddler Clothes

Choosing the right material for your toddler boy clothing isn't just about keeping your little one comfortable in natural fibres, it's also about the planet and your social conscience.

When you choose to buy organic childrenswear, whether it's a babygrow, or a pair of organic pyjamas, you’re choosing to make a difference to your future, your children’s health and the future health of the planet we live on.Decades of poor agricultural practice; the use of dangerous pesticides and fertilisers, GM crops and general soil mismanagement, can be reversed but only if we promise the farmers that we will support them. Your choice is vital in helping companies like ours sustain them as they change the world. Choosing organic cotton is healthy for farmers, healthy for plants, healthy for animals and healthy for kids!
